A Comment on Evolution, Creationism & Intelligent Design

"Evolution is a scientific theory---a well-substantiated explanation of the natural world that can incorporate laws, hypotheses, and facts. The theory of evolution, like the theory of gravitation, not only explains known facts; it also allows scientists to make testable predictions of what they should observe if the theory is true. Evolution has been subjected to scientific testing for more than a century, during which time our knowledge of genetics, genomics, and cell and molecular biology has advanced exponentially. It has been and continues to be confirmed by evidence from a wide range of scientific fields, some of which are highlighted in this exhibition.

Creationism and Intelligent Design posit super-natural explanations for the origins and diversity of life. Invoking causes that are not subject to observation or testing, these explanations lie outside the realm of scientific investigation and therefore outside the scope of this exhibition. However, many scientists and scientific leaders do not perceive an inherent conflict between religion and the scientific theory of evolution."
